Jasmine and her dad took a trip to the pound for Jasmine’s seventh birthday to find as a present a brand new best friend a puppy with whom Jasmine could play First Jazzy found a baby Pitbull A puppy with a gigantic smile! But her Daddy said “Definitely not! It will bite like a little crocodile!” Then Jazzy found a little German Shepherd With the softest coat of fur But Daddy said “Don’t even think about it! Those breeds are cold-blooded hunters!” So Jazzy went back and this time she found a tubby little Rottweiler pup But Daddy shook his head when he saw it: “Those kinds are too strong to tie up!” With a frustrated feeling, Jazz tried again: “This one has cute pointy ears!” But Daddy threw his hands in the air: “Don’t let that Doberman come near!” This was the last straw for seven-year-old Jasmine She sat down and started to weep She could not understand how all of these pups Could ever be too dangerous to keep That was when the clerk at the shelter’s front desk Approached the pair in distress He said to Jasmine’s dad, “With all due respect, you are speaking with unwitting prejudice. ‘The puppies your daughter has chosen are still very innocent and small If you train them to be loving and gentle They won’t learn to be fighters at all ‘Take one home and train it to sit Train it to give your guests handshakes Train it to love your kind little girl And a faithful furry friend it will make” And so Daddy thought and thought for a while considering this new point of view And finally he told Jazzy, “I’ve changed my mind I’m leaving the choosing up to you” And that was how Jazzy was finally united With her beloved little Pitbull baby And to Daddy she said “I’m naming her Poopsie!” And Daddy replied “Maybe, Jazz, maybe . . .” 2018
