Puberty

Jenny the Jackalope woke up and realized
that things on her body were not the same size!
Her delicate baby ears were getting enormous
and her soft baby fur had become a thick forest.
Her hind legs were lengthening like giant caterpillars.
On her head she had grown a pair of hideous antlers.
Oh, she hated those antlers, just tiny little nubs.
They hurt as they grew and looked like ugly tree stubs.
Minnie couldn’t go outside while looking so weird,
at least not until all her acne had cleared!
Her mom called it puberty, what a nauseating word!
It was possibly the foulest phrase she’d ever heard!
All of her friends still looked just the same!
Why did she have to be the first in this game?
She wept, and her parents weren’t sure what to do.
They told her: “Try to see it from a new point of view!
Every day is exciting as new things occur.
Think of it as just a weird wild adventure!
Or maybe just laugh when things get awkward,
because, really, isn’t all life a little absurd?”
But Jenny disagreed, and loped from the scene
to use her long legs to angrily kick things.
