It’s not enough to tell you “I love thee”

It’s not enough to tell you “I love thee” 
I might say the words without a standard gold
Or follow lust when heart does not agree
To say “I love” does not a promise hold

To show “I love thee” then again is hard
You might not notice all the ways I do
Or too long I’ll take to cast away my guard
In fear that fate might drop the other shoe

So look for signs of all the ways I love
In squirming giddy purrs and goosebumps raised
How I stare as though I’ll never get enough
In how I strive to live up to your praise

It’s not enough to tell you “I love thee”
But for now I pledge, and Time will guarantee
