Every year there is a special day It comes just once, at Autumn’s end When the ghosts of the past come out to play And shadows start to descend When children are lured into the Witch’s house With the enticing offer of sweets And the black cat crunches on bone of mouse And werewolves wander the streets When giant spiders crawl out in the night And the goblins escape from their caves The Boogie Man fills your dreams with fright While the undead rise from their graves When the moon is clouded with thick dark fog And an uncanny silence fills the night Until the blood-chilling sound of the howling dog Cuts through the shrouded moonlight So a mask I must wear on Hallowe’en And a dress as dark as the night With monsters afoot I will remain unseen By hiding in plain sight! 2016
